most shoes do not do this, especially nikes and asics, even though asics makes the most supportive shoes. leather is best.Ī neutral shoe is a shoe that first: stands up straight when viewed from the forefoot. most shoes make you pronate, they are not "neutral".) you need a neutral shoe which supports your orthotic and you need a flexible orthotic, not a plastic one. (no matter what the manufacturers say, most of their shoes do not allow your foot to go through its natural range of motion. I suggest you examine your shoes, be certain they are not cut out at the arch and that your feet do not roll in when you put weight on them. it is more likely that a shoe which is too short will affect this more than a stiff shoe. On the other hand, sometimes a shoe which is too stiff or too short will not allow your foot to expand and move in its natural range of motion and again, your plantar fascia will be hurt. it falls off the platform which is the shoe. if you put a stiff orthotic in a curve lasted shoe, the orthotic just falls off (falls into) the arch - instep of the shoe. most shoes with enough support are too stiff in the forefoot for this. You need a straight lasted shoe which is flexible enough for you to run/push off the ball of your foot. However, most shoes which are supportive are too stiff to allow your foot to go through its natural range of motion. This can be solved almost instantaneously by obtaining shoes that are not cut out under the arch i.e have good shank support. if you do not support it enough then it will become overworked and often this will reveal itself in your arch and over-stress your plantar fascia. think of your foot as a suspension bridge. Plantar facitus is caused (most of the time) by excess motion. And, your inserts/orthotics are only as good as the platform on which they sit i.e. are all part of a dynamic system and that this system is only as good as your shoes. You have to remember that your foot/feet/legs etc.
